The Bed ProjectWhen I moved neighborhoods I felt fragile and dislocated. I was struck by the abandoned beds I saw on the curbsides of surrounding streets in Manhattan. They made me sad. I began photographing them, stained and faded, resting like the vulnerable body. I collected a “sample skin” from each of these found beds and later combined them with the actual sheets I grew up with and slept in. I am comforted by these fabrics filled with delicate lines and flowery patterns.click on bed photos from 1999 |
